Student Activity Fee Information-AHSTS
This page is provided in order to inform parents and students about the Activity Fees for 2010-11.
Because of the difficult financial situation Ashland Public Schools is currently in, the School Committee eliminated funding for all after-school activities in 2009. The School Committee's directive was that students will have to pay a fee for participation and the collection of these fees will be managed by Community Education. Fees for activities will be based on the costs of participating in each individual activity. Fees can be waived or reduced depending on need. Student
Activity Fees and AHSTS
AHSTS was part of the discussion on the costs for parents of having their son or daughter participate in the program. During the process it was brought up that it may be hard to fill some positions in productions because those positions focus on service, rather than educational value, if families have to pay. The AHSTS Officers thought it made sense to have students who have positions with a greater time commitment and educational value pay an activity fee while those who fill positions that focus on service do not. The cost of the fee varies depending on the cast size of the show and the number of adult stipends associated with the production.
Individual costs for each show are provided after casting is completed.
AHSTS continues to set aside proceeds from shows and fundraisers to help reduce fees for families. AHSTS plans on greatly subsidizing fees during our 2010-11 season. For more information on next year, visit our AHSTS 2010-11 Season Update page.
