Assistant Stage Manager Properties

The Assistant Stage Manager Properties works through all phases of the
production to encourage the best from the cast, as well as to oversee props, maintain the integrity of the props through the run of the show and
ensure that all borrowed or rented props are returned
 
Auditions

  • Assists the Stage Manager with the process so that all auditioners are seen fairly and with a minimum of delay.
  • May be involved in callbacks.
Rehearsals

  • Coordinate with director and Stage Manager to determine what props are necessary
  • Rent, borrow, buy or build props as necessary to fit within budget
  • Fill in for the Stage Manager or Deputy Stage Manager when needed
  • Prepare props tables backstage, and work with crew and cast members to make sure that props are in place before the show and replaced properly afterwards
 
Technical and Dress Rehearsals

  • Instruct cast in proper handling of delicate items 
  • Assists the Deputy Stage Manager in operational control of backstage
  • Assists the Deputy Stage Manager in coordinating all scene changes, helping assigning actors and backstage crew to positions
  • Ensures that incomplete technical work does not jeopardize the safety of the performers, issuing warnings or adjusting rehearsal conditions as needed.
Performances

  • Make sure that props are in place before the show and replaced properly afterwards
  • Ensures that the cast and run crew are present and quiet during the
    performance.
  • Controls the flow of the performance by helping the Deputy Stage Manager in managing scene changes.
  • Ensure prop tables are clean and organized before leaving.
