Deputy Stage Manager 
 
The Deputy Stage Manager works through all phases of the production to encourage the best from the cast, always being able to fill in for the Stage Manager when needed.
 
Auditions

Assists the Stage Manager with the process so that all auditioners are seen
fairly and with a minimum of delay. May be involved in callbacks.

Schedule 

Compiles and maintains a Company Contact Sheet.

Rehearsals

  • Assists the Stage Manager in his/her duties
  • Sweep the stage before rehearsals, and mop before dance rehearsals
  • Records blocking as it is developed
  • Assist the Stage Manager with prompting the cast with lines and blocking, as needed, during off-book rehearsals and points out discrepancies in their performances.

Technical and Dress Rehearsals

  • Assumes operational control of backstage once it has moved into technical rehearsals.
  • Coordinates and choreographs all scene changes, assigning actors and backstage crew to positions.
  • Ensures that incomplete technical work does not jeopardize the safety of the performers, issuing warnings or adjusting rehearsal conditions as needed.
  • Sets up and puts away, each day, headset equipment.

 

Performances
  • Coordinates all aspects of the backstage.
  • Sweep and mop backstage, picks-up garbage.
  • Ensures that the cast and run crew are present and quiet during the
    performance.
  • Controls the flow of the performance by managing scene changes.
  • Coordinate with Stage Manager to determine when actors need to be in places.
  • Ensure backstage is clean and organized before leaving.
